  • Paint removal on plug wires

I have the original set of plug wires for my 89 MSP SSP and I would like to remove some paint overspray from them without ruining the date codes & other printing on them. Any tips or tricks as how to do this (what chemicals, abrasives, etc)? Thanks in advance for your help!

    Paint removal!

My suggestion would be to try some citrus hand cleaner. I have had good luck with rad hoses, lettering stayed, but can't guarantee it won't take the lettering off a different kind of rubber/silicone. Really leaves items clean with just a warm water rinse! If you have a scrap wire try it on a small area.

Thanks for the idea, I'll give it a try and report back with the results.

Just finished the first plug wire using a tube of Goop citrus hand cleaner (raffle prize from car show last year), warm water, and a clean soft white rag and it worked great! The blue paint that had been on the wires at least 5 years came off with some gentle scrubbing and the factory date code/numbers stayed on. One down, eight to go. Thanks for the great suggestion!

Using brake cleaner on a rag works great also.
