For Sale: 1982 California Highway Patrol Mustang

Vehicle Description:
Up for sale one very rare and restored 1982 CHP SSP Mustang, 1 of 406 ordered for the California Highway Patrol, and one of a handful known to exist. The first year for SSP production, these cars are truly a benchmark for SSP Mustangs and a must for any serious collector. NO hit, NO rust body, history back to second owner. Overall excellent mechanical condition, clean CARFAX history, correct CHP style/period electronics including radio, siren, lights, antennas, spotlights, shotgun rack, special seatbelts. 5.0L 157HP, 4 speed SROD manual transmission, 3.08 posi rear, PS/PB/cold AC. Really a neat car, complete and ready to display at shows and enjoy, here are some of the specifics:
The car was purchased from the state by an individual, and then repurchased and used as a daily driver by a woman in Northern California. Her husband once got out of a speeding ticket because the CHP officer who stopped him recognized it as one of their former cars! It was sold again to a dealer in Northern Ca., whom I purchased it from. I have owned this car for almost two years, and have displayed it at shows in Florida and at the MCA show in AL last Labor Day.
Vehicle Highlights:
Exterior:
Straight body. No dings or dents, all body panels straight. Black paint nice, couple of small scratches, one nick on passenger side headlight, white paint redone on doors and roof, very nice. NO rust anywhere, this was a CA car it's entire life until being shipped to FL several years ago. Glass and trim in good shape, one small ding in driver's door trim. Body moldings are straight and in overall good shape. Front grille has some light pitting in spots but overall good shape.
Interior:
Interior redone with original seat insert fabric which was in good shape; all else is new. I have resprayed some of the interior panels to match, all are in good condition, no cracks or tears. Dash, dash pad, carpet, headliner, all very nice, no cracks/rips/tears. Door panels nice except driver's has slight wave, have replacement panel to fix backing, if desired. All other controls/knobs/etc in good shape. All gauges work, correct green letter ('82 only) certified speedometer.
Mechanical:
Very solid and strong running car. No leaks or issues. Car starts right up and idles smooth, even after sitting. Major work performed in the last 30000 miles includes:
Have all receipts for work performed. The only issue I have had was a PS pressure hose which was replaced with NOS Ford unit. Everything works and operates as it should. Eagle GTII tires are in excellent shape and and have lots of tread.
Emergency Equipment:
Professionally installed and wired, hard to find, correct CHP period/type equipment including the following:
All working equipment uses separate underhood fuse block. For a look at the equipment in action, here are two video links:

SSP Equipment/options:
Being the first year for SSP production, here are the options ordered for CHP and equipped on this car:
All options work fine. The special extra seatbelts specified by CHP are also installed.
Vehicle Summary:
This vehicle has been restored with the correct, functioning equipment, which is very tough to find. Whether you want to restore to Concours spec, or just display as is, either way you will have a vehicle that is bound to appreciate in value, and that you will really enjoy displaying at shows. It runs and drives great, and is really a blast to drive with the 4 speed and torquey 5.0.
This vehicle has been featured in two magazines, and gets LOTS of attention at any show you bring it to as you might imagine! SSP Coupes, especially early ones, are getting very hard to find in nice, clean, unmolested condition. A recent example of 1982 CHP cars sold include one that was literally a wreck, selling on eBay for over 4K!! Where the market goes for these cars in anyone's guess, but prices have risen sharply on restored SSP vehicles over the last several years.
My asking price for this car is $11,500, which I think is very fair in light of vehicle rarity and overall condition. Feel free to email me at webmaster@sspmustang.org or call me at 813.917.7917 with any questions.
Thanks,
Mike Riley.
